- External agents are agents used to collect metrics from an external perspective. Metrics like Network availability, Network latency, Web server availability are collected by external agents.
How to add external agent?
- In the admin tab, navigate to Agents/External agents
- In the external agent configuration page, click on Add new agent
- A popup screen will appear, provide the host name/IP address and nick and click on Update
- You assign the same agent as Remote agent as well.
Assigning External Agents to Hosts
You can assign an external agent to multiple hosts simultaneously so that all applications managed on that host are automatically associated with that external agent. For this purpose, do the following:
- Select the External Agents option from the Agent tile.
- To assign hosts to any external agent, click the Associate/Disassociate Hosts button
- select the external agent for which you want to assign hosts.
- The hosts that are currently managed by the chosen agent will appear in the HOSTS MANAGED BY THIS AGENT list box. The other hosts, which may be associated with other external agents, appear in the HOSTS MANAGED BY OTHER EXTERNAL AGENTS list box.
- To assign the selected external agent to multiple hosts, select the hosts from the HOSTS MANAGED BY OTHER EXTERNAL AGENTS list box and click the < button.
- To disassociate the external agent from hosts with which they are currently associated, select the hosts from the HOSTS MANAGED BY THIS AGENT list box and click the > button.
- The ASSOCIATE>> button enables the administrator to add a host(s) to the existing list of hosts that are being targeted by the external agent under consideration
- Finally, click the Update button.
To check the hosts assigned to external agents
- In the Admin tile, navigate to Agents/Agent status
- In the Agent status page, select the External agents from the Agent type drop-down list.
- Expand the External agent to see the host assigned
- Remote agents are remote data collectors, which offer the agent-less monitoring capability. Using these kinds of agents you can collect metrics which are otherwise supported only by internal agents. This is a license-controlled feature.
How to add a Remote agent?
- In the admin tab, navigate to Agents/Remote agents
- In the Remote agent configuration page, click on Add new agent
- A popup screen will appear, provide the hostname/IP address and nick and click on Update
Assigning Remote Agents to Hosts
- Select the Remote Agents option from the Agent tile.
- To assign hosts to any remote agent, click the Associate/Disassociate Hosts button
- select the remote agent in question from the Remote agent dropdown. All the hosts that are currently not managed by the chosen remote agent will appear in the OTHER HOSTS list. From this list, select the hosts that are to be managed by the chosen remote agent, and click the < button to move the selection to the HOSTS MANAGED BY THIS AGENT.
- Finally, click the Update button to save the changes.
To check the hosts assigned to external agents
- In the Admin tile, navigate to Agents/Agent status
- In the Agent status page, select the Remote agents from the Agent type drop-down list.
- Expand the Remote agent to see the host assigned to it
- Internal agents are used to collecting metrics from inside an application or a system, i.e. it collects metrics by residing in the same machine as the application. Metrics like Cpu utilization, memory utilization etc are collected in this fashion.
